I woke up in a haze

Smokey-eyed I look out
To a hundred souls and thousands of feet

An army of colourful sweatshirts won’t fool me
I see their pale faces
Makeshift bandages around their knees

Searching for the sacred love of their god

Their eyes are sealed by dust and resolution
Disciplined living-deads walking
Their limbs are aching
Arrows sticking out of the flesh
Like the thorns of that crown
That sucks them in
Further into a sandy heaven and the burning concrete
